Pet Food Drive 2011 2nd Annual

Pet Food Drive 2011 - Second Annual Drive helps 'families in need' keep pets at home in Denver
Posted by Melinda Yeary on Monday, December 5th, 2011 at 11:17am
dogandcat_400As we continue to read about the challenging economy and the increasing foreclosure rates another statistic goes hand in hand, families having to part with their beloved family pet due to the cost. The shelters are filled with additional animals due to abandonment, or many times, families bringing them in with no other place to turn. The situation exists across the nation.

As we approach the holidays, please count your four-legged blessings and pick up an additional bag or can (or 2) of cat or dog food for those in need - The Pet Food Drive continues from December 4th - December 17th, 2011. The drop off site is our office at 3627 West 32nd Avenue 's in North Denver's Highland neighborhood. Food Bank of the Rockies will distribute the food to families in need and channel the food through additional agencies such as Meals on Wheels and other groups assisted by the food bank.

I'm a proud sponsor of the Pet Food Drive and an advocate for our furry friends. I've worked to raise funds with several local animal non-profits, including Denver Dumb Friends’ League, Divine Feline & Rocky Mountain Alley Cat Alliance. Denver is such a pet-friendly place! We understand what our pets mean to our families, and the thought of a family having to make a choice to let go of a loved pet hurts us all!

Cat adoption special extended through December

Cat adoption special extended through December

DENVER (Dec. 1, 2011) Though our call for help has been heard by supporters around the Denver metro area, the Dumb Friends League still has more than 550 cats in its care. Because of the growing need to find these cats their forever homes, the League is extending its waived adoption fee for cats 1 year and older through Dec. 31. The special is taking place at both shelter locations—the Quebec Street shelter in Denver and the Buddy Center in Castle Rock, as well as the adoption center in Northfield-Stapleton and on its mobile adoption unit, the Pet Care-avan.

“The community has responded to our waived adoption fees on cats, but the challenge continues,” said Bob Rohde, president and CEO of the Dumb Friends League.

Every cat adoption includes a spay/neuter surgery, initial vaccinations, a microchip ID implant, a free office visit with a participating veterinarian and a bag of Hill’s Science Diet pet food. The League spends approximately $300 for each homeless cat that comes through its doors, including shelter, foster and medical care, and TLC.

“By choosing to adopt, you get a great deal financially while giving a homeless pet another chance at happiness,” said Rohde. “Plus, adopters welcome more love and companionship into their own lives.”

Interested adopters can view all pets in need of homes online at ddfl.org as well as visit the shelters, which are open seven days a week. For more information on the adoption special and on volunteering as a foster parent for cats, visit ddfl.org or call (303) 751-5772.

PAWS TO GIVE… or Shop to Help Homeless
Pets this Holiday Season

DENVER (Nov. 21, 2011) Our four-legged friends need your help this holiday season. The Dumb Friends League is holding its annual Paws to Give fund drive in November and December to help care for more than 24,000 homeless pets this coming year.

“We need your help now more than ever,” said Bob Rohde, Dumb Friends League president and CEO. “Any amount you can give—whether it’s $10, $25, $50 or more—is much appreciated and can make a big difference for the pets and people in our community.”

Financial contributions can be made online at ddfl.org or by mailing a check to Dumb Friends League Paws to Give, 2080 S. Quebec St., Denver, CO 80231.

In addition to making a financial donation, you can also help homeless pets by doing your holiday shopping at the Dumb Friends League:
·         Sit… Stay… Shop. Visit the Sit… Stay… Shop at both shelters for gourmet pet treats, food and supplies such as pet beds, toys, collars and leashes.
·         2012 pet calendars. Purchase a full-color 2012 Dumb Friends League pet-photo calendar for $15. Print an order form at ddfl.org and mail it to the Dumb Friends League, 2080 S. Quebec St., Denver, CO 80231, or fax it to (303) 696-0063. These calendars are also available for purchase at the shelters’ Sit… Stay… Shops.
·         Holiday cards. Mail holiday cards to the pet lovers in your life (10 cards and envelopes for $15). Print an order form at ddfl.org and mail it to the Dumb Friends League, 2080 S. Quebec St., Denver, CO 80231, or fax it to (303) 696-0063. These cards are also available for purchase at the shelters’ Sit… Stay… Shop.
·         Gift cards. Purchase a Dumb Friends League gift card for the pet lovers in your life. The gift card may be used toward an adoption fee or items at either Sit… Stay… Shop.
·         Online Shop. Visit the online shop at ddfl.org where you will find a variety of shirts, hats, coffee mugs, tote bags and other items.

The funds raised will help the Dumb Friends League care for thousands of needy cats, dogs and other small pets. The private, nonprofit organization spends approximately $300 for each homeless pet, including shelter, food and medical care. Last year 19,535 pets were adopted to new homes or returned to their owners by Dumb Friends League. In addition to adopting homeless pets, the League offers other services, including lost and found, humane education, behavior training, animal cruelty investigations and donor-subsidized spay/neuter surgeries for pets in underserved areas.
For more information on the Dumb Friends League and how you can help, visit ddfl.org/paws or call (303) 751-5772.

Puppy Up! Walk Denver 2011

Hello!

I would like to say thank you for making The Puppy Up! Fort Collins Walk a huge success last year. Because of you, Fort Collins was the number one fundraiser in the country and we had the privilege of having Luke, Hudson and Murphy walk with us. This year The Puppy Up! Walk is going to be held in Denver. I would like to invite you to join us at The Puppy Up! Denver Walk at Stapleton Central Park in Denver on Nov. 6. The proceeds we raise will benefit 2 Million Dogs and lead to improvements in cancer treatments for people and pets with cancer. 2 Million Dogs is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization committed to discovering the links between canine and human cancers and their causes through comparative oncology research.

The Puppy Up! Denver Walk will begin with an opening ceremony that is followed by a 2 mile walk. At the conclusion of the walk, we will have human and canine entertainment, prizes, contests, vendor booths and more. You can stay informed about the exciting developments by liking The First Puppy Up! Denver Walk 2011 on facebook and by following PuppyUpDenver on twitter.

We would also like to encourage you to SIGN UP BEFORE MIDNIGHT EST ON OCT. 22. Luke , Hudson and his new puppy, Indy, wil be walking in the city that has raised the most money by that time. ( For those of you who don't know, the 2 Million Dogs organization suffered a great loss when Murphy lost his battle with nasal cancer in June of this year. )

A CANCER-FREE WORLD STARTS WITH ONE MILE, ONE DOG AT A TIME.
